Tile is beautiful and typically easy to clean, but the grout between the tiles can easily become stained and difficult to maintain; especially in the bathroom. Subway tiles have become especially popular recently, but the tiny grout areas can be even more difficult to keep clean.
There are several commercial, store-bought cleaners that you can use or you can use household mixtures to create more cost-effective solutions. According to Better Homes and Gardens, if the grout in your bathroom isn’t too deeply stained, you can use a bleach solution of ¾ cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water to clean the grout with a toothbrush or small brush. Be sure to avoid scrubbing so hard as to damage the grout and always make sure to wear protective eyewear. For proper ventilation, open all the doors and windows near the area that you are working in.
If cleaning the grout just isn’t cutting it, it’s probably time to replace it. Buy or rent a grout removal tool and use it to remove the grout while being careful not to damage the tile. Clean the space between the tiles, then apply the new grout and seal it.
